Modular Madness final crit

So my final critique went like this, I personally wish it were bigger like as in wider, some people were amazed that I didn't use a backing for this piece because I had instead glued each individual piece. Some people told me that it looked like a bed of nails, which if I had more golf tees and hadn't chosen a wall spot, I could've glued them all together to look like a bed of nail. Of course you wouldn't be allowed to lay on it because the golf tees weren't all the same size and it would really hurt. One of the things I should've thought of was the wall I placed the piece on, the tool sign and wall sockets clashed with the piece, it could've been tied in together if I had somehow used the pieces and connected them with the sign and sockets.

Monologuing....

I didn't know what to do for my rant and so I chose to do this about people who eat food while having conversations with others. I don't know how I feel about these monologues yet....

Mark Making HW

Mapping Life

My goal for the mapping life is to well first make this list a little longer, but yeah I want to draw everything that I have listed, try to make comics out of some stuff or caricatures out of people and then when I have them drawn I shall collage them onto a piece of probably foam board or something and go from there.

Golf tee madness

My golf tees slowly fall from their square to the floor.
Materials: The materials used were golf tees and the overall piece does respond to the objects because the tees themselves are straight and ridged while the overall piece has starts off as a square with hard edges and slowly falls down the wall of individual straight pieces. The only other object that could be used that I can think of would be nails because of the similar shape that they have to the golf tee. One problem that I would've had if I wanted to create the starting square perfect would be that the golf tees were not all the same length even though the bags stated they were all 2 1/8 in. When I first started the piece I had another idea for it but the further along I got the more I didn't like it. The whole think kept reminding me of something I had seen before and I couldn't figure out what it was until my mother looked at it and said it looked like a 1960's wall decoration which I didn't want something that I had seen before. The golf tees kept making me think of the piece I created now.

Craftsmanship: The whole entire thing was put together individually using nothing but hot glue which i personally think it helps the piece because you can still see the wall if you look close enough which I liked about it. The only thing I didn't like about hot glue were the little spider webs that were left over from the glue gun, that just got annoying.

Concept: The piece could relate to the history of the golf tee if you were to flip over the main square and took it out to a golf course and wanted to hit a crap load of golf balls off of it. When the viewer see's this piece they don't think of golf tees at first because you are looking at the sharp end of the tee, what the viewer thinks is similar to a bed of nails and it makes them want to touch the main square because it looks sharper than they really are.

Story Line

(Two little beings are sitting and having an argument)
A – “I’m telling you that choice right there is obviously the better of the two.”

D – “And I’m telling you that the other choice is better, so much better!!!!”

A – “And why pray tell is the other choice better?”

D – “Well it’s obvious isn’t it? Just look at all the stuff that comes with it, I mean, come on! Everyone knows that the more you have the better it is!”

A – “Tsk tsk tsk, just because it’s got more stuff on it doesn’t mean that it’s better. Sometimes simple is indeed the better way to go.”

D – “Simple? Really? Who wants to be simple anyways? More stuff may mean more complex but it really does mean that it’s better!”

A – “I have a suggestion, how about we let her decide what to do?”

D – “ Why should we let her decide? I know what’s better for her more than you do!”

A – “ And what makes you so sure? I’m not the one telling her more is better and why must you always say that your better?!”

D – “Because it’s true, now why don’t you just go shove that harp…..

L – “Oh my gosh would you two seriously be QUIET?!!! The fact that you two are arguing and that I’m actually listening to this conversation is making me feel like I’m close to insanity!”

A – “…..”

D – “…..”

L – “Besides I’ve already chosen which one I’m going to go with.”

A & D – “WHICH ONE?”

L – “I’m going with both slices of cheesecake because you simply can’t go wrong with cheesecake!”

I spy with my little eye lots and lots of lines!

It's interesting how much stuff you can find that has lines when you're at work!

A broom

Lines from a bag of flour

An order booklet thats upside down.

Coffee stirrers

I have to admit this one is my favorite.

Human Dot Critique

My continuance human dots
Whoops the picture is flipped around.

My similarity composition
The original similarity drawing
Craft: We gave ourselves a 3 for craft because not all of our prints were the same size some were printed out bigger than others and we all agreed that we like the bigger prints than the smaller ones. Also some of the pictures weren’t done the same way as the others and when we did look back at our pictures we noticed some areas that shouldn’t have been in the picture and we discussed that we should’ve put down a white piece of paper under our hands to eliminate the random areas.

Negative space: We gave ourselves a 4 because some of the pictures were all the same but in the pictures that were the same we had very rich whites and blacks.

Dots: We discussed and gave our dots a 4 because all the dots had different textures and were different sizes and then in one picture the dots were painted instead of having actual objects used.

Human element: We gave a 5 because unlike most of the table groups we used our hands only instead of using the whole body.

Theme/meaning: We gave a 5 because we wanted to play with texture of the hands and the objects that we used as dots.

Group process: After discussing it we gave ourselves a 4 because we got the project done quickly and we all got along great, everyone was patient with me because I had to paint their hands and try to create straight edges with black paint. The only problem was that one person didn’t show but we overcame that obstacle and got our stuff done.

Human Dot Comps

Today in 2D we were given instructions to recreate our dot compositions with a human touch added, our table used their hands and I was the photographer and they painted their hands white with their wrists black and then had various sized objects placed on their hands.
Continuance, I like this picture

Similarity. This picture has a sort of grunge-ish look to it.

Modular Madness

One idea for my golf tees

Got bored and assembled them all into a square

And then I knocked some over, like the falling domino effect
I like this picture actually

I tried to create something that flowed like a river.

sketch ideas for what to make.
I think I'll do a series of these for my project.
